And now for something completely different.....some sketches. I just got another Moleskin sketchbook and man those things ain't cheap and the dad-gum price went up on them again! They're not the kind of thing I want to just doodle in, so I try real hard to treat every page like it's my last....sad, huh? I really like the size of these, but if anyone knows of another brand similar, but cheaper? I'd appreciate it. I plan on going back and do some simple color washes over a couple of these when I have time and repost them. I'm glad it's gotten warmer, and I can now go out and do more drawing now and I hope to fill this one up soon..so get me any reference you can before I go and buy another one of these things!!!! Oh....and leave me some feedback (good or bad) on the stuff I posted!

Wow! These are incredible! Great design, line work, value, the whole shebang! I just started a moleskin sketchbook myself (my first actually) and love it. I don't know of anything like 'em so sorry no help here. Big fan of your blog, can't wait to see more!

Hey Rob,

Those are outstanding, looks like an illustrated story book in the works to me; just need a few pages of story to go with each image and presto! Really though, they do have a great feel and sense of peace; awesome work.

I love this stuff , Rob ! Great sketches. I'd love to see more of your sketchbook work posted.

Off-topic , but --
These remind me a bit of Robert Crumb's sketchbook drawings of scenes in France. Have you seen those ? Totally different than what people typically think of as "R. Crumb" . (I actually like Crumb's drawings quite a bit when he's not wallowing in his bizarre fetishes and psychological hang-ups . )

Hey, I appreciate the feedback and I'm glad you like the sketches. I'll make an effort to post more sketch stuff for you! I did check out the Crumb sketchs and I didn't realize he'd done those. Great stuff and a breath of fresh air from the other drawings I'm familiar with. Thanks and hope your doing well!

Hey, Rob! Great stuff, here. I always have trouble drawing nature, but you make it look effortless. I really like the one on the top center/left, with just the one tree in it. It has th feel of everything else just being out of focus, and a really nice graphic quality to it.

The only critique I can make is that the sketch of the girl seems to be flattening out a bit, like it's shot from a long way away, zoomed in. Maybe there's something you can do to push the BG back a bit further? I can't think of exactly how to do it, though, so I'm not much help... :)

Anyhow, really inspiring stuff, as always.

Hey thanks man and I see what you mean about the sketch. I think it may be that the foreground, middle ground and background are all too close in value. Good call and I'll go back into it and see if I can fix that. Thanks and I appreciate the feedback!

how much do you buy your sketchbooks for now? cause they aren't that expensive where I'm at. so I guess it depends on your definition of expensive.
other than that, gorgeous drawings. its not sad at all to treat every page like its your last. cause you never know when God will bless you with one more page. I'm sure he likes looking at your stuff too. =)
